Holy Trinity Science Week

27th Mar 2026

Classes accross our school completed science experiments as part of our schools Science Week.

In P2 the children had lots of fun making balloon rockets. They predicted what they thought might happen and then took it in turns to have a go. They talked about how the air in the balloon and straw made the balloon go very fast when we let go of the peg.

In P3 the children carried out a 'Rain in a Jar' experiment.

In P4 classes are learning about germination and have been doing a science experiment as part of our school science week.

In Mrs Daly's P5 class the chidlren completed the ice water challenge, they timed how long they could hold their hands in iced water.  For the 'Floating and Sinking' experiments the children tested a range of objects to see if theu would folat or sink in water.

In Mrs Morris class the children made a boat out of plasticene that would float on water. There was a lot of discussion on how to make the test fair.  The pupils then worked on their boats and tried to amend them, where necessary, to ensure that they floated.  Each pupil then predicted how many marbles their boat could hold while  floating on the water, before testing it out themselves.  The activity was really enjoyed by all.

For Science Week Miss Hartes class explored absorption: We watched as water was dropped onto kitchen roll to reveal what was underneath, pictures of ourselves and our favourite characters. We used language such as absorbed and see through.  Next we experimented absorbing different colours, we dipped twice in different colours to see the paper change as it absorbed another.  Lastly, we had fun using different materials and watched how much coloured water they absorbed.

In P6 the children created a stable chair from recycled material, the chair had to hold up a small object.  They loved the activity and there was alot of discussion about how best to construct the chair.
